IN THE PAST VOLUNTEERING WAS BETTER
THEY SAY THAT IN THE PAST VOLUNTEERING WAS BETTER. BUT NO, IT WAS ONLY IN THE PAST, THAT’S ALL
Špela Kutin used to be responsible for the Governmental Department of Translators and Interpreters. Encouraged by The Award Program she has taken on new volunteering responsibilities within a professional society. That requires a lot of learning. Now, over recent years she has been visiting a family friend who had an accident and has been in a state of physical dependency for some years. When the Senior Award Program started, she was invited to become an active member of a professional society of interpreters. Since then, she has been spending days organizing activities, attracting and selecting lecturers, etc. Volunteering, she has definitely upgraded her organizational skills though she has never been involved in education for volunteering. She likes volunteering for a number of reasons. First and foremost, she feels responsible and useful, but she has also learned that people and society will always have needs. She gives a lot, but she also expects appreciation, respect, readiness to give from others. She is not ready to stop volunteering. Only declining health could stop her.
